What do teachers need to know before the MESHA Science assessment?

MESHA Science is a 40-minute online assessment that students complete in class on Edrolo, with no marking for teachers. It shows you what your students know and where they need support, and should feel like a normal lesson with no extra workload.

How does the assessment run?

  • It runs in a single 40-minute sitting.
  • It's delivered online through Edrolo (unless your school has specified for an offline assessment)
  • There are 11 stimuli (short passages, diagrams or data sets), each with 2 or 3 multiple-choice questions.
  • There's no marking required.
  • Insights are ready 10 days after the assessment window finishes.

What do students need for the assessment?

Students only need to bring:

  • A charged laptop;
  • A pencil & eraser; and
  • Blank scrap paper.

How do students access the assessment?

Once have created an assessment sitting, the assessment opens automatically in Edrolo at the scheduled time.

  1. At the start of the lesson, sign in (log in) to Edrolo.
  2. On the left-hand side menu, click the Assessments button.

How do students login to Edrolo?

There are three ways that students will be able to login to Edrolo, dependent on your school's individual setup.

We have created Student Experience Slides that you can present to students prior to the MESHA assessment to explain and guide them through the whole process.

  1. For schools with Single Sign On (SSO) click here.
  2. For schools with Edrolo Login (existing users) click here.
  3. For schools with Standardised Password access click here.
1) Single Sign On (SSO)

SSO uses your school's existing login credentials, with no new password setup required. You can read more about SSO for Edrolo here.

To login via SSO:

  1. Go to the Edrolo login page: https://edrolo.com.au/account/login/
  2. Enter your school account email address.
  3. Login via your school's portal.
Example of a school's Single Sign On (SSO) login page.

If you need to set or reset your password, do it through your school account, not through Edrolo.

2) Edrolo Login (existing users)

If your students already use Edrolo, they are able to access MESHA via their standard login process. You can read more about logging into Edrolo here.

3) Standardised Password (new users)

If your students do not use Edrolo and your school does not have SSO, your school may be configured with a temporary standardised password. This will be emailed to your school prior to the MESHA assessment window.

Before the assessment sitting

  1. Check your class list allocated to the sitting. If a student is missing or shouldn't be there, ask your school's Edrolo administrator to update the class in Admin Hub. They can follow How to add or remove students from a class.
  2. Check the date and time of your sitting. Click Assessments, then View assessment next to your MESHA assessment.
  3. Brief your students on what to bring and how the assessment works.
  4. Make sure you can sign in to Edrolo yourself.

After the assessment

Once all students have submitted, there's nothing more to do. You don't need to mark anything or follow up. Initial results can be viewed immediately after the assessment and your insights report will be ready 10 days after the assessment window. To find it, see How to find your MESHA report?
