To monitor your students' progress live, open your sitting's page while the assessment is running. The Student progress table updates as each student starts, answers questions and submits.
Video Walkthrough
For a live video demonstration of what the assessment looks like for both students and teachers, please watch below.
Open your sitting's live progress page
- Click Assessments in the left-hand menu, find your MESHA assessment and click View assessment.
- In the Assessment sittings table, click the sitting your students are doing today.
The Student progress table shows each student's:
- Status: Not started, In progress or Submitted.
- Screen focus: whether the student is looking at the assessment right now.
- Questions answered and Marks.
- Time elapsed: how long they've been working on the assessment.
How your students start the assessment
- Ask students to log in to Edrolo and click Assessments in the left-hand menu.
-
Under MESHA, they'll see the assessment in the Available now tab. They click View Assessment.
Side-by-side view of a Teacher's account (left) and Student's account (right) - The next page shows how many questions there are and whether a calculator is allowed. Students click Start assessment when you're ready to begin.
As soon as a student starts, their status on your page changes to In progress and the Time elapsed timer begins.
What students see while answering
- Each numbered question has a piece of stimulus (such as a diagram or short passage) followed by several parts, labelled a, b, c and so on.
- Students choose 1 of the 4 answer options (A, B, C or D) for each part.
- To move on, they click Next, or click the tab for the next part (for example, Q1.b). The progress panel on the right shows which questions are left.
⚠️ Note: The question count in the student's progress panel counts each piece of stimulus, not each question part. A Science assessment might show 11 questions in the panel but 32 questions in total, so don't be alarmed by the difference.
If a student leaves the assessment screen
While a student is working in the assessment, their Screen focus shows ✅ Focused. If they switch to another tab or app (for example, a search engine), it changes to ❌ Not focused.
- If you see Not focused, go over and check what the student is doing.
- Once they return to the assessment, Screen focus changes back to Focused.
When students submit
- Students click Submit Assessment in the top-right corner, then confirm.
- They're asked to rate how confident they felt on a scale from 1 to 10, then they'll see an all-done message.
On your page, the student's status changes to Submitted, and you can see how many questions they answered and their marks. If a student has answered far fewer questions than the total, check in with them.
⚠️ Note: Students can't see their results straight after submitting. Results stay hidden until your school releases them, so students in other classes can sit the assessment later without hearing answers from their friends.
If a student submitted by mistake
Once a student submits, they can't go back in on their own. You can reopen the sitting for them, so they can pick up where they left off.
- In the Student progress table, click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the end of the student's row.
-
Click Reopen sitting, then confirm.
- Ask the student to refresh their Assessments page. The assessment appears under Available now again.
- The student clicks Continue Assessment to carry on. Their status changes back to In progress and the timer starts running again.
