To prepare students for MESHA Science, brief them a few days beforehand on what to bring and how the assessment works, then use the script below to run the 40-minute sitting on the day. Students don't need to study, and their Edrolo accounts are already set up.
Tip: Run a quick sign-in practice in the lesson before the assessment. Students who've logged in once already will be ready in seconds on the day.
Before assessment day: brief your students
Share these points with your class. Copy and edit them to suit.
- Bring a charged laptop, a pencil, an eraser and blank scrap paper.
- The assessment will be completed in class on [insert date].
- You'll have 40 minutes. There are 11 stimuli, each with 2 or 3 multiple-choice questions, for 32 questions in total.
- Do not open or browse other tabs during the assessment. Teachers can see when you are doing this via Edrolo.
How do students login to Edrolo?
There are three ways that students will be able to login to Edrolo, dependent on your school's individual setup.
We have created Student Experience Slides that you can present to students prior to the MESHA assessment to explain and guide them through the whole process.
- For schools with Single Sign On (SSO) click here.
- For schools with Edrolo Login (existing users) click here.
- For schools with Standardised Password access click here.

Assessment day script
To help make facilitating the assessment as easy as possible, you can use this script for instructions.
Opening (0-5 minutes)
- Check that every student's scrap paper is blank. Replace any paper that has notes on it.
- Say: "Please open your laptops and sign in to Edrolo, as we practised. You'll see the MESHA assessment when you sign in. Don't click Start yet."
- Say: "Give me a thumbs up when you can see the start screen." (Or ask students to raise a hand.)
Instructions (5 minutes)
- Say: "Your answers save automatically when you choose an answer and click Next."
- Say: "There's a progress window on the right-hand side of the screen. It shows which questions you've answered and which you haven't. If you skip a question and there's time at the end, you can go back to it."
- Say: "I'll give you a 5-minute warning before the end."
- Say: "You can click Start now. You have 40 minutes." Note the time.
Five-minute warning (35 minutes)
- Say: "Five minutes left."
End (40 minutes)
- Say: "That's time. If you haven't already, click Submit now."
- Say: "Please close your laptops and stay seated while I collect the scrap paper."
After the sitting: check everyone has submitted
- Open the sitting in Edrolo and check the Student progress list.
- If a student hasn't submitted, ask them to click Submit on their screen.
- Once everyone has submitted, you're done. There's no marking or follow-up.
⚠️ Note: Collect all scrap paper at the end of the sitting. If any paper has notes written on it before the assessment starts, replace it and report it as a breach.
