Student Home is designed to support your existing workflows and increase student accountability. Here are answers to common questions about the new page.
Tasks and Assignments:
1. Will Student Home change how I set or manage tasks?
No. You will continue using the same task workflows you use today. Student Home simply makes your assigned tasks with due dates clearer and easier for students to act on.
2. Which tasks show up on the Student Home page, and for how long?
Tasks due within 7 days (up to 7 days ahead) or tasks that are up to 7 days overdue appear in order by due date.
3. Do tasks without a due date show up?
Tasks without a due date come last in the ordering. To ensure maximum visibility, it is recommended to always set a due date.
4. Can students still see all their tasks?
Yes. Students can still see all their tasks, including closed or completed tasks, on the main Tasks page. The Student Home list is designed to keep the view focused on urgent and upcoming work.
Navigation and Content Access:
5. Will Student Home change my class pages or content?
No. Content access remains the same. Students can still browse subjects as usual; they just have a faster path to the next relevant action.
6. How does the "Continue" function decide where to send students?
The "Continue" function (Resume) picks the most recent meaningful learning point per subject. It prioritises items with question responses. If there is no such recent activity, it defaults to the latest video viewed.
Progress Signals and Metrics:
7. What do the weekly signals measure?
The weekly signals measure a lightweight set of metrics, including questions answered, videos viewed, and time spent. At launch, students will also see a comparison of all metrics to the previous week.
8. When do these metrics reset?
Most metrics reset weekly on Mondays at 00:00.
9. How is the Tasks Streak calculated?
Task streaks are based on completing the teacher-created tasks you have set before the due date has passed. This metric runs continuously and does not reset weekly. It excludes spaced retrieval tasks.
10. Will this impact student privacy or data policies?
No. Student Home follows our existing privacy standards. The weekly signals are designed to help student motivation and build regular study habits.
11. Do students have to use the new Student Home? Is there an opt-out?
Student Home will be the default view during the gradual rollout. An opt-out to the legacy bookshelf view is available during the transition window.
