Opening and closing an assessment for your classes

This article shows how to find an assessment, open or close it for your classes, and preview it before students start.

Find the assessment

From the Assessments page, select the subject you want. You'll see every assessment for that subject, each showing its status, length and how many students have submitted. Use the search bar to jump straight to a particular one.

Check whether it's open or closed

Each assessment shows an availability label so you can see access at a glance:

  • Open: available to students in all your classes.
  • Closed: not available in any of your classes.
  • N of M classes open: available in some of your classes but not others.

Open or close a single assessment

Use the toggle in the Open column to open or close an assessment across all your classes. The Status column updates to show the result. A closed assessment still appears in your students' list, but they can't start it until you open it.

Open or close everything at once

Use Open all or Close all to update every assessment in the subject in one go. You'll be asked to confirm before the change applies across all your classes.

Set access for individual classes

Open an assessment to see each of your classes listed separately. From here you can open or close access to one class at a time, which is handy when your classes are at different points in the course.

Note: Most assessments are open by default, so your students may be able to start straight away.

Preview before students start

Open an assessment and select Preview section to move through it exactly as your students will. A numbered sidebar lets you jump between questions so you can check the content and order with confidence. Previewing doesn't affect your students or their results.
